There is a rigid pattern for describing academic excellence, which invariably tilts towards the idea that one has to be on top of the class rank most of the time. It is fairly logical to buy into this fact, because, after all, isn’t the purpose of assessments to determine who well grasped the contents of the syllabi? Being academically excellent and being academically exceptional are not completely independent of each other. While being exceptional could be a layer on top of excellence, being excellent is just a flat terrain with the topography that makes becoming exceptional a possibility. There will always be certain facts that would cut across the different content one reads through, making it relatively easier to find consistencies and irregularities. Once a while read, revise on a few concepts you’ve learned before on a concept that seems to have a slight correlation with a current concept. This will help serve as a building block for the current block of knowledge.
SUMMARIZE WHAT YOU LEARN
Summarizing what you learn doesn’t only capture the bulk in a small volume, it simultaneously magnifies comprehension. Because it is the whole that has been expressed in a few relevant sentences devoid of unnecessary paragraphs and facts. A summarized note will always contain all the facts in the most comprehensive manner than a large unfiltered one. Moreover, the former makes revision easier while the latter will most definitely have you flipping sheets hundreds of times.

Doing so exposes you to different methods of thinking, which compels your mind to sift through the volumes of knowledge you have accumulated to find, to the best of your mental ability, the one that resonates with the given query. With consistency, associating concepts with questions slowly comes with relative ease.
LOOK AT THE PRACTICAL SIDE OF THINGS
You sure don’t want to be perceived as just a memory junk who only absorbs information and pours it out on demand. Your ability to relate knowledge with the real world will definitely make you stand out. That ability is craved much more than any other intellectual prowess. It signifies understanding and further implies that one has substantial control over his domain.
